Building upon their Special Strategic Partnership, Australia and Japan have signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on quantum science, technology, and innovation.
This Memorandum aims to strengthen links between Australia and Japan’s quantum ecosystems by increasing opportunities for collaboration, investment, research, and commercialisation.
Under the Memorandum, Australia and Japan will deepen cooperation across a range of priority areas, including regional quantum leadership, access to infrastructure, commercialisation, supply chain resilience and education and workforce development.
This arrangement will support greater access to research infrastructure, encourage industry partnerships, and help accelerate the development and adoption of quantum technologies across both economies and throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

By increasing collaboration, we can unlock new opportunities for research, businesses and investors while helping shape the next generation of world-leading quantum technologies.
“As we mark 50 years of cooperation under our bilateral Treaty, this is an important step in advancing Australia and Japan’s Special Strategic Partnership. It builds on our shared interests, and positions both countries to work together on the opportunities that will shape the next 50 years.”
