Photonic quantum computing company Xanadu and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) – the Singapore government’s agency for scientific research – have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in quantum technology research.

The agreement builds on Xanadu’s existing partnership with the A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (A*STAR IME) and now extends to the agency’s Institute of High Performance Computing and Quantum Innovation Centre (A*STAR IHPC). According to the announcement, the parties plan to explore long-term research collaborations and the possibility of establishing joint quantum laboratories or operations in Singapore.

Under the agreement, the organizations intend to collaborate on projects involving error mitigation for GKP state generation, quantum light-source development, quantum connectivity using integrated photonic chips, and advanced packaging and ASIC integration. The partners also plan to study the feasibility of hosting photonic quantum computers in Singapore.

This news comes shortly after the Singapore’s National Quantum Computing Hub – a joint initiative by A*STAR IHPC, Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) and the National Supercomputing Centre – announced a new partnership with neutral-atom company Pasqal for the research and development of neutral atom quantum processors.
