On January 9, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Japan’s Yaqumo, which is building neutral atom quantum computers, and Singapore’s Entropica Labs, which is developing error correction software. The two companies will work together to develop fault-tolerant quantum computers.
Through this MOU, Yaqumo and Entropica Labs aim to explore the co-design of hardware transpilation – converting code such that it is understood by specific hardware – as well as optimization technologies that are tailored to neutral atom quantum computers.
Said Entropica Labs on its LinkedIn page, “The real challenge is turning quantum computers into usable, scalable systems. To make that happen, we must start designing hardware and software together, with fault tolerance at the core.”
The MOU was signed in Singapore, as part of an initiative to strengthen Singapore-Japan cooperation in quantum technologies. The signing was witnessed by Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information of Singapore, and Onoda Kimi, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy of Japan. Also on this occasion, the two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on quantum science, technology, and innovation – SIngapore’s first government-to-government agreement that is quantum-specific.
